North Stars’ Del Paggio named CJHL 3rd star of the month

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Daniel Del Paggio has been named its third star of the month for January.

The rookie, who skates for his hometown Thunder Bay side, was recognized for a stellar first month of 2014 in the Superior International Junior Hockey League where he racked up 27 points in 12 games notching a dozen goals and dishing out 15 assists.

Two of his tallies were game-winners and he also set-up another decider.

He was also earlier named the SIJHL’s Gongshow Gear performer of the month for January for his efforts.

On the season the 17-year-old Del Paggio leads the SIJHL in point-per-game average at 2.10 while sitting second overall in offensive production with 86 points in 41 games on 34 goals and 52 helpers.

As the second youngest player in the league he is currently riding an impressive 26-game point streak.

Earning CJHL first star of the month laurels was defenceman Trey Phillips (9 GP, 3 G, 9 A, 12 PTS) of the Canmore Eagles (AJHL) while forward Nathan Todd (11 GP, 7 G, 11 A, 18 PTS) of the Brockville Braves (CCHL) was selected second star.

Brett Wagner (10 GP, 11 G, 9 A, 20 PTS) of the Elliot Lake Bobcats (NOJHL) received honourable mention honours.

Del Paggio and the rest of his North Stars teammates return to SIJHL action tonight as they host the English River Miners in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Fort William Gardens.
