North Stars complete weekend sweep of Iron Rangers

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Brandon Bodnar turned aside all 24 shots he faced Saturday to backstop the Thunder Bay North Stars to a convincing 7-0 win over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter at the Fort William Gardens.

The shutout was Bodnar’s third of the season, which ties him for the most in the SIJHL so far in 2017-18.

Thunder Bay would grab a 2-0 lead after one period of play in this one starting with Alex Leonidis collecting his first league marker at 11:31.

Brad Thrower then upped the home side’s cushion as he converted during as a North Stars power play at 17:14.

Thunder Bay then blew it open in the second stanza as they tacked on five more markers to put the game out of reach.

Brendan Gillis tallied twice in the session, including one during a man advantage, while Alex Erwin, Alex Maticic and affiliate Joel Willan supplied singles.

Gillis and Thrower both finished the night with four points apiece while Troy Sherman doled out three assists in the decision.

Rob Ivy saw 41 shots fired his way in defeat for Minnesota.
