North Stars Brattengeier blanks Lakers

FORT FRANCES, Ont.  – Alex Vaillant scored the game’s only goal 51 seconds into the contest while Jayme Brattengeier turned aside all 38 shots he faced to backstop the Thunder Bay North Stars to a narrow 1-0 victory over the Fort Frances Lakers in  Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ice for Kids Arena.

Vaillant’s eighth goal of the campaign in the first minute of play proved to be the only marker on the night while Brattengeier did the rest in registering his first shutout of the season.

Talor Joseph only allowed the one goal on the night, but suffered his first loss in a Lakers’ uniform.

With the win Thunder Bay moved past the Minnesota Iron Rangers into fourth spot in the SIJHL standings improving to 27-26-1-0 overall.

Fort Frances fell to 34-17-1-2 in defeat.

The same two sides will meet again Monday at 7:30 p.m. with the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay serving as the venue.
