North Stars blast Flyers 8-2

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back en route to an 8-2 romp over the Sioux Lookout Flyers Tuesday in a penalty-filled Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at the Fort William Gardens.

Jordan Davidson, Mason Prout and Trevor Hynnes had the goals in the opening frame for Thunder Bay.

Matt Kaarela extended the North Stars cushion to 4-0 after 40 minutes with the lone marker in the second session.

Kaarela and Mathias Gardiman made it 6-0 in the third period before Sioux Lookout finally got on the board with 8:21 remaining thanks to Matthew Schwehr.

Kyler Ackewance, on the power play, seconds later made it a 6-2 game before Prout and Marshall Fox added late tallies to round out the night’s scoring.

Jayme Brattengeier made 29 saves to pick-up the win for Thunder Bay while Eric Mess Messer faced 38 shots in defeat.
