Norskies recognized by Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League would like to extend congratulations to its member club, the Thief River Falls Norskies, on their recent recognition by the Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce.

The Norskies were named the chamber’s new business of the year award recipient for their efforts and achievements in the community.

As an expansion franchise in the SIJHL this season, the first-year team has had a tremendous impact in Thief River Falls from the onset.

To strong community support, from a crowd 1,785 at their home opener and a record-gathering of 3,011 this past Saturday at Ralph Engelstad Arena in a victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars, the Norskies have certainly made an impression in the northern Minnesota town.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support of the business community in Thief River Falls and it’s a huge honour for our entire organization to win this award,” offered Norskies general manager Kevin McCallum.

The team has also been successful on the ice in their inaugural campaign in the SIJHL presently sitting in third place in the league standings with 53 points on a 24-15-2-3 record after 45 games.

Thief River Falls also leads the way in attendance so far in 2016-17 and hosted a successful SIJHL Showcase at The Ralph last month.

“We congratulate the entire Thief River Falls Norskies organization on this award,” stated league commissioner Bryan Graham.

“From their tremendous leadership off the ice with their ownership group of Dave Beito, Tim Berglund, Jodi Holen and Kevin McCallum to the efforts of head coach Cole Workman and the entire Norskies staff, they are all to be commended for impressive contributions to the SIJHL and in Thief River Falls,” added Graham.
