Norskies humbled in Winkler

WINKLER, Man. –  The Winkler Flyers (MJHL) scored multiple goals in each period as they went on to humble the Thief River Falls Norskies 10-0 Saturday in a Canadian Junior Hockey League exhibition contest at the Winkler Recreation Complex.

Winkler got going early grabbing a 2-0 lead after the opening frame on markers by Nolan McGuire at even strength and Coltyn Bates, during a power play.

The Flyers added three more in the middle session to take a 5-0 lead as Gino Lucia tallied twice while Matt Christian added one while his club was shorthanded.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League side then finished off the one-sided decision with a five-goal third period to complete the romp.

Christian, Bates, a third from Lucia, Connor Hamonic and Jeff Michiels were the marksmen in the stanza.

Cole Weaver picked up the win in net with Aaron Brunn also seeing action as the duo combined to make 12 saves in posting the shutout.

Sam Novak was peppered with 55 shots in defeat for the Norskies.

Thief River Falls will now return home to regroup and prepare for their Superior International Junior Hockey League debut Friday as they visit the defending Bill Salonen Cup champion Fort Frances Lakers at 7:30 p.m.
