Norskies double-up Lakers 4-2

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Thief River Falls Norskies broke open a tie game with a pair of third period tallies to help them defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 4-2 Wednesday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Skylar Lentz staked Fort Frances to the lead midway through the first period, only to see Parker Simonson knot it at 1-1 with his 19th of the season at 16:34 of the frame.

Heading into the middle stanza, Nick Lucas put the Lakers back in front eight and a half minutes into the session, but once again the Norskies countered with the equalizer, which came off the stick of Mitchell Soderberg a couple shifts later.

Moving on to the third period, the home side took their first lead of the night 31 seconds into the stanza getting the eventual game-winner from Michael Johnson.

Pete Grytdahl then added some insurance for Thief River Falls eight minutes after that to round out the night’s scoring.

Soderberg dished out three assists to go with his marker to end up with a four-point night.

Simonson meanwhile added two helpers to go with his tally.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured the Norskies 39-34 with Bailey Schmitz picking up the win while Ismael Ralsten suffered the loss for Fort Frances.
