Norskies’ Buttazzoni named SIJHL – Play It Again Sports player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thief River Falls goaltender Ryan Buttazzoni has been named its Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Feb. 12.
In two starts last week the 20-year-old Hinton, Alta., product won both of them allowing just one goal against in backstopping Thief River Falls to a pair of victories.
Buttazzoni began by turning aside all 32 shots he faced Friday to post his first SIJHL shutout as Thief River Falls won at Fort Frances.
Then on Saturday, in front of a record crowd of 3,011 at Ralph Engelstad Arena, the Norskies netminder made another 17 stops as his club defeated visiting Thunder Bay.
For the week Buttazzoni registered a 0.50 goals-against average and a .980 save percentage.
On the season his 16 wins tie him for second overall among all league goaltenders.
Also earning consideration for Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:
