Minnesota’s Reichle named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Minnesota Iron Rangers goaltender Alex Reichle has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period ending Dec. 15.

In two starts last week the 20-year-old native of Wildwood, Missouri won both of them helping the Iron Rangers move into second place in the SIJHL standings.

Reichle began his award-winning effort Wednesday as he helped backstop Minnesota to a 5-4 overtime victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars.

Three nights later he came within 89 seconds of registering his first SIJHL shutout, but still finished by turning aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced in a 4-1 triumph over the Dryden Ice Dogs.

He also picked up an assist on the third Minnesota marker in the contest.

On the season Reichle has won his last three appearances while his 10 wins so far this season puts him in a tie for the second most in the league.

Also receiving consideration for Pizza Hut player of the week were Lucas Debenedet, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Chris Varrin, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Chris Hrabec, (F) English River Miners; Matthias Gardiman, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars and Tanner Vinson, (D) Wisconsin Wilderness.

At the conclusion of the regular season the SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
