Miners’ Harney blanks Wilderness

EAR FALLS, Ont. – English River Miners netminder Greg Harney stopped all 31 shots he faced to shutout the Wisconsin Wilderness Thursday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ear Falls Arena.

The Miners would provide all the offensive support Harney would need on this night getting power play tallies from Dominic Blouin and Vincent Currao to go up a pair after 20 minutes.

After a scoreless middle session English River added some third period insurance courtesy of Brendan Wilde and Bryson Jasper to round out the scoring.

Currao also had an assist for a two-point outing for the winners.

The blanking by Harney was his league-leading second of the season for the 18-year-old product of East Haven, Conn.

Brendan Manquen faced 40 pucks in a losing cause for the Wilderness.

The same two sides will meet again Friday back in Ear Falls at 7 p.m.

Two other games are on the SIJHL slate as well with Fort Frances hosting Thunder Bay and Minnesota visiting Thunder Bay in a pair of 7:30 p.m. starts.
