Miners edge North Stars 2-1 in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY, Ont.  – A Trevor Pereverzoff goal with 7:15 remaining along with a 44-save performance from goaltender Michael Lenko allowed the English River Miners to slip past the Thunder Bay North Stars 2-1 Friday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens.

After a scoreless opening period, Miners’ defenceman Zac Schlitt put the visitors on the board 13:19 into the middle stanza.

The North Stars came right back a minute later and got the equalizer on Jake Robinson’s eighth of the season.

It stayed tied at 1-1 until the latter stages of the final frame when another English River blueliner, in Pereverzoff fired home the game-winner for the visitors.

Lenko did the rest stopping all 13 attempts he faced in the third and 44 overall to secure the victory for the visitors.

Jordan Elliot stopped 27 of 29 in a losing cause for Thunder Bay.
