Miners complete 3-game sweep of North Stars

EAR FALLS, Ont. – Alex Maticic had a pair of goal to help lead the English River Miners to a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ear Falls Arena.

After winning a pair of high-scoring affairs over the Stars Thursday and Friday, the Miners came out firing early in this one thanks to Maticic 47 seconds into the contest.

Thunder Bay battled back to score twice before the opening frame was done thanks to Kris Hamlin and Nicholas Nigro, who connected on the power play.

Maticic would tie it midway through the contest only to see the North Stars go back on top thanks to a Brad Thrower man advantage effort at 11:26.

Konnar Dechaine tied it for the Miners seven and a half minutes into the third and then won it on Destin Robinson’s game-winner with 8:49 to go.

Thunder Bay outshot English River 37-30 on the night with Reid Kilburn picking up the win and Devin Russell the loss.
