Led by Allkins, Dryden drops English River

EAR FALLS, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got a goal and three assists from Braeden Allkins to help this dispatch the English River Miners 6-1 Tuesday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter at Ear Falls Arena.

It took the GM Ice Dog 81 seconds to open the scoring in this one as Kent Walchuk knocked in his eighth of the season as he beat Miners starter Reid Kilburn.

English River tied it via the power play six minutes into the contest as Ryker Moreau connected on a man advantage opportunity.

Heading into the middle stanza, Dryden got the eventaul game-winner from defenceman Nathan Avery who collected his first SIJHL marker at 5:55.

Walchuk then bagged his second of the night a mere 15 seconds later to put the visitors up a pair through 40 minutes.

The GM Ice Dogs then put the game away in the final frame as they scoring three times to secure the victory.

Nic Noseworthy made it 4-1 early in the third with his 11th of the campaign while Allkins added to his club’s cushion at 13:21.

Woody Galbraith then iced it just over two minutes later as he finished off a Dryden power play by picking up his fourth for his side.

Blake Berg and Kyle Pouncy had two assists apiece to aid the GM Ice Dogs offensive cause.

Paul Fererrier made 18 saves to record the win for Dryden while Kilburn faced 41 shots in defeat for English River.

With the decision, the GM Ice Dogs won for a fourth straight time improving to 17-5-1-2 overall and are now just two points in arrears of league-leading Fort Frances who they host Wednesday at Memorial Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m.. The Lakers do hold two games in hand however heading into the match-up.

In defeat the Miners fell to 7-13-1-4.
