Larson, Jeanetta lead Wilderness to shutout victory

HOYT LAKES, Minn.  – Jake Larson tallied twice and dished out a pair of assists while JoJo Jeanetta turned aside all 18 shots to he faced to help lead the Minnesota Wilderness to a 5-0 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Thursday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

The SIJHL-leading Wilderness got first period goals from Peter Barral and Mike MacKinnon to grab a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

After a scoreless middle stanza the Wilderness put the game away in the third striking three times, including a pair by Larson.

Nick McCormack notched the other effort, on the power play, to round out the night’s scoring with 6:01 to go.

The shutout was Jeanetta’s fifth of the season, which moves him into a share of the SIJHL, lead in that category, with teammate Gordy Defiel.

That ties the duo for the sixth most in the entire Canadian Jr. Hockey League.

The 10 combined shutouts that the Wilderness have posted so far this season is also the most of any club, among the 127, that currently comprise the CJHL.

SIJHL play resumes Friday as the Iron Rangers host the Fort Frances Lakers in a 7 p.m. start back in Hoyt Lakes.
