THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Frances Lakers rookie forward Ian Tookenay has been named its Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending February 18.
In three games during the time frame the 17-year-old Fort Frances product had multiple points in each of them as he totalled seven assists in all, helping the Lakers pick-up five of a possible six points in the SIJHL standings.
Tookenay began with a pair of helpers in a win at Minnesota on Wednesday.
Friday he matched a single-game high with three assists in a home ice victory over English River before finishing his run by setting up two more tallies in an overtime setback vs. Dryden Saturday.
As the youngest player on the Fort Frances roster, Tookenay sits tied for third on the squad in scoring with 31 points, including nine goals.
