Lakers’ Tanner Hamilton named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Frances Lakers goaltender Tanner Hamilton has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Oct. 7.

In two starts during the week that was the 20-year-old Saskatoon, Sask., product won both of them backstopping the Lakers to their first two victories of the season.

Hamilton began his award-winning effort by turning a 25-save performance Saturday in Thunder Bay as Fort Frances defeated the hometown North Stars 6-1.

He followed that up by stopping all but one of 30 shots he faced Sunday in a 3-1 triumph at Duluth.

Hamilton finished up his week with a 1.00 goals-against average and an impressive .964 save percentage. On the season the Lakers’ netminder has a 2-2 record with a 2.50 GAA and a .912 save mark.

In recognition of his on-ice efforts he will be presented a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to JoJo Jeanetta, (G), Minnesota Wilderness; Tyler Walsh (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Matt Kaarela, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Trevor Hoth, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers and Austin Snedden, (F) Duluth Clydesdales.

At the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season, the SIJHL’s top performer will be presented the league’s Pizza Hut player of the year award.
