Lakers’ Robertson SIJHL nominee for RBC CJHL player of the year

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A banner season on the ice in the Superior International Junior Hockey League has earned Dylan Robertson of the Fort Frances Lakers a national nomination.

Robertson will serve as the SIJHL’s nominee for the RBC Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year award.

This honour is given annually to the player who best combines on-ice performance with off-ice social responsibility.

He will join his fellow nominees from the other nine leagues that comprise the 131-team CJHL for the accolades.

The RBC CJHL player of the year will be announced during next month’s RBC Cup national Jr. A championship in Lloydminster, Alta.

Hailing from Atlanta, Ga., the veteran forward was instrumental in aiding the Lakers’ efforts as they captured their third consecutive Bill Salonen Cup SIJHL championship.

In regular season play Fort Frances captain led all SIJHL skaters in offensive numbers with 88 points in 53 games on 31 goals and 57 assists.

His success helped him garner league top defensive forward laurels while also being named a CCM Hockey first team all-star as well the SIJHL’s Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions most valuable player.

Robertson continued his stellar play in the postseason topping all players in scoring with 17 points in 10 outings, including a league-best 10 tallies.

His performance earned him the Gongshow Gear playoff MVP award.

He will now join the rest of the Lakers at next week’s Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canada Jr. A championship, May 3-7, in Kirkland Lake, Ont.

There the SIJHL champions from Fort Frances will meet the title holders of the OJHL (Trenton Golden Hawks) and NOJHL (Soo Thunderbirds) along with the host Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the NOJHL with a berth to the RBC Cup Canadian Jr. A championship, May 14-22 in Lloydminster, Alta., up for grabs.
