Lakers’ Robertson named SIJHL’s best defensive forward

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Dylan Robertson of the Fort Frances Lakers has been named the SIJHL’s best defensive forward award recipient for the 2015-16 season.

Robertson earned the honour over fellow best defensive forward nominees Eric Madison of the Minnesota Iron Rangers and Kenny Turner of the Thunder Bay North Stars in voting done by each of the league’s member clubs.

A tremendous competitor on both ends of the ice the veteran forward, who is in his final year of Jr. A hockey, Robertson helped the Lakers claim their third consecutive league regular season crown with a SIJHL-best record of 46-8-0-0.

The native of Atlanta, Ga., also led the SIJHL in scoring this season with 88 points in 53 games on 31 goals and 57 assists. Two of his tallies came while Fort Frances was shorthanded.

Robertson becomes the fifth player in SIJHL history from a Fort Frances-based franchise to capture this award.

Wyatt Cota (Co-winner) last season, Blake Boaz in 2010-11, Mitch Cain (Co-winner) 2008-09 and Josh Baxter (Co-winner) in 2001-02 also garnered the accolades.
