Lakers’ Debenedet named opening Gongshow Gear performer of the month

THUNDER BAY – The Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that Fort Frances Lakers forward Lucas Debenedet has been named the opening Gongshow Gear performer of the month award recipient.

Debenedet was recognized for his on-ice contributions with Fort Frances for the month of October as well as for the opening two weeks of the season in September.

In 14 games during that span the 18-year-old native of International Falls, Minn., racked up 24 points on 12 goals and as many assists helping the Lakers post a an impressive 12-10-1 record.

On the season the rookie forward leads the SIJHL in total points (31) and tallies (15) while aiding the efforts of Fort Frances in their current 15-game winning streak along with the No. 3 overall ranking in the 128-team Canadian Junior Hockey League.

Also receiving consideration for the Gongshow Gear performer of the month award were Daniel Delpaggio, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Dane Feeney, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Jason Reynolds, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers, P.D. Melgoza, (G) English River Miners and Darrick Howard, (F) Wisconsin Wilderness.
