Janke’s 4-point night leads Miners over Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The English River Miners saw Jared Janke notch a hat trick and add an assist to help lead them to a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Each side would score once in the first period with Nic Herringer connecting for English River while Zac Horn countered for Minnesota.

Janke and Ethan Wong tallied less than a minute apart for the Miners in the middle stanza to put the visitors up 3-1 before Brendan Bomay got one back for the Iron Rangers at 16:09.

However Michael Di Lullo got that right back 22 seconds later to put English River up 4-2 after two.

In the third, Janke had goals, including the final one into an empty net, sandwiched around a Clayton Brown effort for the Iron Rangers to round things out offensively on the night.

Westin Cardwell made 22 stops to post the win for the Miners while Rob Ivy saw 37 shots against in defeat for Minnesota.
