Janke fires 5 as English River sinks Dryden

COCHENOUR, Ont. – A red-hot Jared Janke scored five times, including a first period natural hat trick, to help pace the English River Miners to an impressive 7-1 victory over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Cochenour Arena.

Janke scored for a fifth straight outing to put English River in front at 8:14 of the first period and then added his second marker of the session at 17:03.

On a power play after that Janke added his third tally of the frame while Stratton Picket connected 43 seconds later to up their lead.

Jordan Barensky made it 5-0 early in the middle stanza as he notched his second 54 seconds into the stanza.

It was more Janke in the final frame as he tacked on two more to finish off his five-goal night in the first half of the period to increase the Miners’ cushion to seven.

Dryden did break Michael Lenko’s shutout bid with a power play marker of their own coming with just over five minutes remaining in the contest, thanks to Jacen Bracko’s 10th of the season.

Janke also picked up an assist on the night giving him a dozen tallies and two helpers in his past five outings for English River.

Kyle Rosolowski helped set-up four goals on the night while Pickett and Michael Di Lullo had two helpers apiece on an evening where English River connected six times on the power play.

Lenko stopped 41 of the 42 attempts sent his way to pick up the win for the Miners.

Isaac Labelle start for the GM Ice Dogs and suffered the loss allowing three against on seven shots while Justin Anderson handled 17 of 21 in 43 minutes of relief.
