Iron Rangers win second straight

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – A Jonathon Losurdo goal with 8:17 remaining proved to be the difference as the Minnesota Iron Rangers edged the Fort Frances Lakers 3-2 Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Kevin Kurm staked the visitors to an early lead as he beat Minnesota starter Joey Rebedew with a power play marker just 2:27 into the contest.

The score stayed that way until midway through the contest when Jay Routheau tied things up with his first of the season knotting the score at 1-1 after 40 minutes.

A quick strike by Riley Daly put the home side up a goal 1:33 into the final frame with Losurdo notching his second consecutive game-winner tally 10 minutes later.

Fort Frances, playing their first game of the regular season, pulled to with one with just over a minute to go in regulation as Owen Stauber potted his first SIJHL goal at 18:56.

That was however the last offensive effort of the evening with Rebedew finishing up with 33 saves to register the win in net helping his side capture their second straight while improving to 2-2 early in the campaign.

Tanner Hamilton finished up with 22 stops in defeat for the Lakers.
