Iron Rangers take border battle over Wilderness

SPOONER, Wis. – A Superior International Junior Hockey League border battle Friday between the Minnesota Iron Rangers and the Wisconsin Wilderness went the way of the Gopher State as Minnesota skated to a 5-1 victory at the Spooner Ice House.

After the Wilderness took a 1-0 lead after one period of play thanks to a Nick Minerva power play effort, it was all Iron Rangers after that as they struck for five unanswered goals the rest of the way in the triumph.

The visitors took a 3-1 edge after 40 minutes as Jason Reynolds, Matt O’Dea and A.J. Rupert all found the back of the next on Wisconsin starter Griffin Strain.

Austin Frank and Drew Millis then tacked on tallied in the final frame to round out the scoring.

Shots on goal favoured Minnesota 46-33 with Patrick Anderson picking up the win in net for the Iron Rangers.
