Iron Rangers name Davis new head coach/GM

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Minnesota Iron Rangers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Jesse Davis has been appointed their new head coach and general manager, effective immediately.

Originally from the Detroit, Mich., area, Davis has more than 16 years’ experience as a coach or GM.

“I am very excited to take the head coach/GM position with the Iron Rangers,” stated Davis.

This is a well-established program in a great league,” added the new Minnesota bench boss.

“I am also looking forward to the strong relationship between the community and the team. This is a beautiful part of Minnesota and I plan to set roots there for quite a while.  Our goal from here is to establish a winning product on the ice, give back to the community, and help create opportunities for our players to achieve their goals of playing college hockey and beyond.”

Prior to joining the Iron Rangers; he served as head coach/GM of the Breckenridge Bucks of the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League.

Davis also spent five seasons in the United States Hockey League where he held assistant coach/director of player personnel positions with the Bloomington Thunder and Fargo Force.

While in the USHL Davis was part of a Western Division championship team in Fargo that went to the Clark Cup Finals in 2012.

He has also had a chance to coach over 30 NHL draft picks and over 70 NCAA D-I college committed players.

Before that Davis worked with several North American Hockey League teams; acting as an assistant coach/assistant GM with the Texas Tornado, which won a Robertson Cup Championship as well as a GM with the Motor City Machine and an assistant coach and head scout for the Toledo Ice Diggers.

Davis’ extensive coaching resume also includes stints with the Motor City Chiefs CSHL, Chicago Fury Midget AAA, Detroit Belle Tire Midget AAA, Detroit Little Caesars Midget AAA, Detroit Compuware Midget AAA, & Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep HS.

Davis is also the owner of Hockey Smart LLC, which is involved with hockey schools, camps, clinics, and tournament teams all over the US including USA Hockey Development camps.

Hockey Smart is now in its 11th year and is also part of Rocky Mountain Hockey Schools and European Tours.

The club welcomes Jesse to our Ranger family and the community of Hoyt Lakes. We look forward to this new chapter in our organization and a great season ahead of us.
