THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A pair of Superior International Junior Hockey League match-ups Tuesday evening saw the Minnesota Iron Rangers edge the Fort Frances Lakers 2-1 in overtime while the Thunder Bay North Stars blanked the English River Miners 6-0.

MINNESOTA IRON RANGERS 2 FORT FRANCES LAKERS 1 (OT) – Austin Frank notched the winning goal with 67 seconds remaining in overtime as the Iron Rangers edged visiting Fort Frances at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

After a scoreless opening period the Lakes grabbed the lead in the middle stanza as Lyndon Lipinski connected on the power play at 11:04.

Minnesota forced extra time with 3:15 remaining in regulation as Sam Mancini finished off the work of Jay Routheau and Ben Raushnot.

Frank then beat Devin Tappenden late in OT to give the Iron Rangers the extra point in the standings.

Erick Majerle made 17 saves to register the victory while Tappenden had 36 shots in the setback for the Lakers.

THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS 6 ENGLISH RIVER MINERS 0 – Nathanial Dupuis stopped all 34 shots he faced while Matthias Gardiman had a natural hat-trick and an assist as Thunder Bay blanked English River at Ear Falls Arena.

The North Stars chased Miners starter Greg Harney with three first period goals, including a pair by Taylor Santorelli and one by Daniel Del Paggio.

Gardiman had two of his tallies in the middle session on P.D. Melgoza to put the visitors up by five through 40 minutes.

He then capped off his big night with a shorthanded marker in the final frame to round out the scoring.

Del Paggio also had a pair of helpers to aid the Thunder Bay cause as he extended a consecutive game point streak to 20 straight games.

Melgoza stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced in relief of Harney.
