Iron Rangers and Lakers SIJHL winners Saturday

THUNDER BAY – A double dose of Superior International Junior Hockey League play Saturday evening saw the Minnesota Iron Rangers and Fort Frances Lakers both skate to victories.

MINNESOTA IRON RANGERS 4 DRYDEN ICE DOGS 1 – At Memorial Arena in Dryden the Iron Rangers spotted the Ice Dogs an early lead before rallying with four unanswered goals to skate away with the triumph.

Cody Kaus connected on the power play 57 seconds into the contest to put Dryden on top only to see Minnesota respond with efforts from Eric Madison and Austin Frank to go up 2-1 after 20 minutes.

The middle stanza saw the Iron Rangers tack on two more tallies thanks to Matt O’Dea and Tom Fazio to round out the scoring.

Erick Majerle picked up the win in net for Minnesota as he made 21 stops on the night.

Shane Dietl saw 34 shots in a losing cause for the Ice Dogs.

FORT FRANCES LAKERS 6 WISCONSIN WILDERNESS 2 – At Ice for Kids Arena Fort Frances won for a ninth consecutive time as they topped the visiting Wilderness.

The Lakers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after of period of play and never looked back en route to the win.

Colton Spicer, Torrin Grange, Kevin Kurm and Mason Meyer put the Lakers firmly in control after 20 minutes.

Neither side scored in the middle stanza with the squads then supplying two markers each in the third.

Kyle Pipinski and Lucas Debendet added the Fort Frances efforts as Alex Arnold and Zach Kraft did likewise for Wisconsin.

It was a one-side shots on goal count in favour of Fort Frances as they pelted Luke Thompson with 53 pucks in the Wilderness net.

Ryan Ferguson saw 17 attempts as he secured the win in net for the Lakers.
