Ice Dogs score in Dryden with community efforts

DRYDEN — A strong offensive year from the Dryden Ice Dogs has helped local bowlers.

Former Ice Dogs’ trainer Jim Wright represented the hockey club at a cheque presentation on Thursday, May 30 as part of the team’s “Score for a Cause” campaign which was presented by Walmart in Dryden.

Wright says the Walmart “Score for a Cause” campaign was another major success this year, with the annual fundraiser being a joint partnership between Walmart and the Ice Dogs.

Throughout the 2012-13 Superior International Junior Hockey League campaign, Walmart in Dryden donated $3 per goal, $1 for per assist and $50 for any shutout Dryden players and goaltenders accumulated during the season.

This year a donation of $1,036 was presented to the Sunshine Bowlers, which will help purchase t-shirts and the like.

Sunset Bowlers Club Coordinator Brenda Hazlewood said each of the 23 bowlers are going to receive badges for their skill levels, which will be put on their new shirts.

Sunset Bowlers is open to any bowler with a disability and allows each of the particpants a great way to interact with each other.
