GM Ice Dogs complete weekend sweep of Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got two goals, including the game-winner, and two assists from Braeden Allkins to help them complete a two-game road sweep of the Thunder Bay North Stars Saturday as they skated to a 5-2 victory in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at the Fort William Gardens.

Fresh off a 6-3 triumph over the North Stars Friday, Allkins got the GM Ice Dogs on the move early Saturday with a power play marker before the game was two minutes old.

Nic Noseworthy put Dryden in front by two early in the middle session only to see Thunder Bay answer 48 seconds later on a Brad Arabia effort.

Allkins matched that at 13:56 as he put the visitors up by two entering the third.

Ben Smaha then notched a pair of tallies in the final frame sandwiched around a power play marker by the North Stars’ Arabia to round out the night’s scoring.

Kent Walchuk chipped in for Dryden by dishing out three assists.

The GM Ice Dogs outshot Thunder Bay 38-27 in the game with Paul Laferriere picking up the win and Riley Corbin the loss.
