Friday night sees English River and Minnesota skate to road victories

THUNDER BAY – A pair of games on the Superior International Junior Hockey League slate Friday evening saw the two visiting teams, in the English River Miners and Minnesota Iron Rangers both skate to victories. 

ENGLISH RIVER MINERS 8 THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS 6 – A high-scoring affair went the way of the visiting Miners as they skated past the North Stars at Fort William Gardens.

Paul Lamoureux, Dominic Blouin and John Morales all tallied twice for English River while Chris Hrabec and Taylor Bargar supplied singles.

Daniel Delpaggio had a hat-trick in a losing cause for Thunder Bay who also got a pair of markers from Robert MacLean along with a solo effort courtesy of Alex Vaillant.

The Miners outshot the North Stars 39-28 on the night with P.D. Melgoza registering the win.

Nathanial Dupuis started for Thunder Bay, but gave way to Eric Mann after allowing five goals on 25 shots. Mann made 11 saves in nearly 30 minutes of relief.

MINNESOTA IRON RANGERS 6 DRYDEN ICE DOGS 2 – Matt O’Dea had the game-winning goal and added two assists to help Minnesota to the road victory at Memorial Arena.

After A.J. Rupert opened the scoring for the Iron Rangers 3:47 into the first period, Dryden responded with markers from Chris Sitco and Chris Varrin to take a 2-1 lead after 30 minutes.

It was all Minnesota after that as they took control in the middle session getting goals from Trevor Hoth, O’Dea and Drew Millis to go up a pair through two periods of play.

They then put it away in the third getting efforts from Tom Fazio and Matt Audet to put it away.

Shots on goal favoured the Iron Rangers 44-41 with Alex Reichle registering the triumph while Shayne Dietl was saddled with the loss.
