Fort Frances wins second straight
DULUTH, Minn. – The Fort Frances Lakers scored three first period goals while goaltender Tanner Hamilton did the rest in helping the club skate to a 3-1 triumph over the Duluth Clydesdales Sunday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Heritage Sports Center.
Colton Spicer opened the scoring for the visiting Lakers midway through the opening stanza beating Duluth starter Dom DeGuiseppi.
Special teams allowed Fort Frances to strike again as Merritt Rysavy tallied on the power play at 13:09.
Spicer’s second of the period in the late stages then made it 3-0 after 20 minutes.
Zachary Newman got the Clydesdales on the board at 14:27 of the middle frame, but that completed the evening’s scoring.
Hamilton made 29 saves to pick-up his second consecutive victory for the Lakers who fired 35 shots on Duluth’s DeGuiseppi.
With the win Fort Frances improved to 2-3-1 on the year while the Clydesdales remain winless at 0-5-1.
