Fort Frances rallies for 8th consecutive win

DRYDEN, Ont. – A Roshen Jaswal tally with 8:20 remaining proved to be the difference maker as the Fort Frances Lakers from from an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 4-3 Sunday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter at Memorial Arena.

Derek McPhail staked Dryden to the opening goal 10:53 into the contest as he connected on a man advantage opportunity.

McPhail added another at 14:05 as he notched his second of the period and 20th of the season to put the home side up by a pair.

Fort Frances got one back with just over two minutes left in the first as Nick Minerva picked up his 11th overall while also extending a goal streak to six straight and a point run to eight in the process.

The Lakers tied it midway through the contest as Julian Uhryniuk supplied the equalizer to knot the affair at 2-2 through two.

Carter Chorney put the visitors in front early in the third as he finished off an attempt by Christian Ripley with Dryden replacing starter Paul Leferriere after that marker.

Jaswal then made it 4-2 with a fourth straight Fort Frances goal.

Troy Williams brought the GM Ice Dogs with 2:02 remaining in regulation, but they would get no closer as the Lakers held on for their eighth straight victory.

Pierce Dushenko was stellar between the pipes for Fort Frances making 49 saves to earn the win.

Unruh suffered the loss allowing the one against on five shots in 17:57 of relief while Laferriere stopped 15 of the 18 attempts he faced.

With the decision, the league-leading Lakers improved to 25-3-0-1 overall while second place Dryden fell to 20-7-2-2.
