Fort Frances defenceman Minerva named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Nick Minerva has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Dec. 6.
In two road outings last week the 19-year-old native of New Brunswick, N.J., played a pivotal role in two-thirds of the dozen goals his club scored by dishing out eight assists in a pair of Fort Frances victories.
Minerva began by helping set-up three Lakers’ tallies in a 5-3 triumph at Minnesota Thursday.
Two nights later he had a career single-game high five assists as Fort Frances slammed English River 7-1.
Minerva, who has only been held off the score sheet once in his past nine outings, currently leads all SIJHL defencemen in offensive production with 28 points in 20 games by scoring five times and helping produce 23 others.
The Lakers blueliner is also tied for fifth overall in league scoring.
