Fort Frances defeats Minnesota in SIJHL Monday matinee

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Fort Frances Lakers picked up a pair of goals from Jaedin Ness while Adam Withers scored once and added an assist to pave the way for a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Monday afternoon at Ice for Kids Arena.

The Lakers first power play of the day helped them notch the lone tally of the first period as Ness collected his 25th marker of the season at 16:57.

Withers then added to the lead in the middle session as his 12th overall put the home side up 2-0 after 40 minutes as his effort proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Julian Uhryniuk added to the Fort Frances cushion early in the third as he collected his ninth at 4:22.

Minnesota got on the board with 11:01 to go as Eli Kinsman’s 13th dashed Brett Akin’s shutout bid as the Iron Rangers converted on a man advantage opportunity.

The visitors then pulled starter Tyler Thompson in the late going in an effort to draw closer, but Ness iced it with a empty netter to round out the scoring.

The Lakers outshot the Iron Rangers 49-25 in the contest with Akins picking up the win while Thompson suffered the loss while making 45 saves along the way.
