Dryden’s Zachary Kercz named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced that Dryden Ice Dogs forward Zachary Kercz has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Nov. 17.

In two games this past week the 18-year-old Aurora, Ont., product picked up five points helping the Ice Dogs pick-up three of a possible four points on a two-game road swing.

Kercz began with an assist in 5-4 overtime setback in Hoyt Lakes vs. the hometown Minnesota Iron Rangers this past Tuesday and followed that up the following evening registering a career-high four assists/points, which included setting up the game-winner, in a 7-5 triumph at the Spooner Ice House vs. the Wisconsin Wilderness.

On the season the diminutive five-foot-nine forward sits fourth on the club in offensive production with 18 points in 20 games, including eight tallies.

Also earning consideration for Pizza Hut player of the week laurels were Austin Frank, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers, Trevor Hynnes, (D) Thunder Bay North Stars and Nick Minerva, (D) Wisconsin Wilderness.

Note: The Fort Frances Lakers and English River Miners did not play this past week and thus did not have a player of the week nominee.

At the conclusion of the regular season the SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
