Dryden’s Laferriere records 1st SIJHL shutout in blanking English River

DRYDEN, Ont. – Dryden GM Ice Dogs goaltender Paul Laferriere turned aside all 38 shots he faced to post his first Superior International Junior Hockey League shutout, a 4-0 triumph over the English River Miners Saturday evening at Memorial Arena.

After a scoreless opening frame, Dryden got the only goal they would require 3:04 into the second as Kyle Pouncy connected on a power play to put the home side up by one.

Pouncy came right back and struck again just 15 seconds later to make it a 2-0 game.

The GM Ice Dogs added another in the final moments of the middle session as Woody Galbraith picked one up shorthanded at 19:35.

English River came out with Reid Kilburn to start the third in place of starter Korlan Vader with the only marker in the session coming into an empty net as Nic Noseworthy collected his 12th goal of the season that was produced with his club having a player in the penalty box.

Blake Berg dished out three assists in the win while Laferriere had one of his own on the night’s final tally to go along with his initial league shutout.

Vader faced 40 shots in two periods of work allowing the three against while Kilburn kicked out all six attempts he saw in relief.
