Dryden barrels over Thief River Falls

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading Dryden GM Ice Dogs used a well-balanced attack getting goals from seven different skaters in a 7-1 dismantling of the Thief River Falls Norskies Friday night at Memorial Arena.

Dryden set the tone early storming out to a 3-0 lead on markers from Trey Palermo, Derek McPhail and Kris Hamlin.

Thief River Falls got one back in the final minute of the first with Parker Simonson supplying his 16th of the season at 19:34.

It was all GM Ice Dogs in the middle session however as they tacked on three more to go up 6-1 after 40 minutes.

Jacen Bracko’s 40th of the campaign started the offensive outburst in the stanza at 2:22 before Braedyn Aubin struck shorthanded at 8:49 to spell the end of Norskies’ starter Ryan Buttazzoni’s night in favour of Sam Novak the rest of the way.

However the SIJHL’s leading scorer, in Braeden Allkins, greeted Novak 70 seconds into his stint as he buried his league-best 49th goal of the season.

Chris Atanas finished things off for Dryden with the lone tally of the third.

Nic Noseworthy and Cory Dennis chipped in with two assists apiece for the home side.

Ben Dennis made 41 saves to pick up the win.

Buttazzoni suffered the loss for Thief River Falls allowing five against on 20 shots while Novak handled 17 of 19 in relief.

The same two teams meet again Saturday night in a 7:30 p.m. back at Memorial Arena.
