Dryden edges Thief River Falls 4-3

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Trey Palmermo’s 10th goal of the season during a man advantage opportunity at 12:23 of the third period was the game-winner as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Thief River Falls Norskies in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Sunday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Both clubs came out flying offensively in the opening 20 minutes with each side scoring three times.

The Norskies grabbed an early 2-0 lead on tallies from Reily McIntosh and Alec Daman.

Dryden countered with a pair of markers of their own as Kris Hamlin and Derek McPhail connected less than a minute apart to knot the affair at 2-2.

Connor Smith’s 20th of the campaign put the home side back in front at 19:15 of the frame, but the GM Ice Dogs came right back with the equalizer 27 seconds later off the stick of Eric Stout, who notched his league-leading 27th.

Both teams tightened up from there through a scoreless middle session.

It remained tied past the half way mark of the third when Dryden broke the deadlock on Palermo’s difference maker while up a man.

GM Ice Dogs netminder Ben Dennis shut the door the rest of the way to secure the decision finishing with 40 stops in picking up the win.

Ryan Buttazzoni faced 43 shots in defeat for the Norskies.
