Dryden drops Minnesota 3-1

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – A Derek McPhail goal midway through the first period stood up to be the game-winner as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs pulled out a 3-1 road victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Dryden got things going offensively 8:32 into the contest on a Ben Smaha effort.

Less than a minute later the GM Ice Dogs added another as McPhail found the mark to put his side up by two.

Minnesota pulled closer on the first shift of the middle frame as Tristyn Sabina struck on the power play at the 39-second mark of the second.

Matt Houston’s sixth of the season 5:50 into the third added some insurance for Dryden in what turned out to be the final tally of the night.

Taylor Unruh handled all but one of the 27 shots fired his way to pick-up the win for the GM Ice Dogs.

Alex Burke faced 26 attempts in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
