Vader stands tall as Miners drop GM Ice Dogs

EAR FALLS, Ont. – English River Miners goaltender Korlan Vader turned in an impressive 37-save performance to backstop his side to a 4-1 vicitory over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ear Falls Arena.

The game was scoreless until the late stages of the opening period when Dryden’s Braedyn Aubin notched his ninth goal of the season at 18:18.

Special teams allowed English River to tie it 46 seconds into the second stanza as Matthew O’Neill struck shorthanded to knot the affair at 1-1.

Miners’ defenceman Trevor Pereverzoff picked up the eventual game-winner five minutes later as the home side took a 2-1 lead into the final frame.

In the third, Daniel Szpakowksi put English River up by two at 11:17 on a man advantage effort before Alex Maticic iced it with an empty netter with 1:54 to go.

Konnar Dechaine and Destin Robinson had two assists apiece for the Miners in victory.

Vader’s efforts allowed him to record the win for the Miners with the 38 shots against while Troy Pierce stopped 21 of 24 in defeat for the GM Ice Dogs.
