Miners’ Matechuk named SIJHL’s initial 2015-16 Gongshow Gear performer of the month
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that English River Miners forward Landen Matechuk has been named the initial 2015-16 Gongshow Gear Inc. performer of the month award recipient for October.
This honour also includes the first two weeks of SIJHL play in September.
In 14 games during the six-week span, Matechuk paced all SIJHL skaters in offensive production by amassing 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists.
The 20-year-old Fort Langley, B.C. product not only leads the league in scoring, he also tops all SIJHL players in point-per-game average at 1.71.
Matechuk has also already easily surpassed his point total from last season when he produced 14 points in 27 outings for the Miners, which included five tallies.
For his efforts, Matechuk will receive a prize pack courtesy of Gongshow Gear, the official lifestyle hockey apparel of the SIJHL.
Also earning consideration for the SIJHL’s Gongshow Gear performer of the month award was Pierce Dushenko, (G) Fort Frances Lakers; Taylor Unruh, (G) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Kris Hamlin, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars and Jackson Bond, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
