3-point night for Kurm as Lakers defeat North Stars

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Fort Frances Lakers forward Kevin Kurm scored twice and set-up another to help lead his side to a 5-3 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars Monday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ice for Kids Arena.

Daniel Delpaggio notched all three tallies for Thunder Bay in defeat.

After Delpaggio opened the scoring 8:41 into the contest Fort Frances responded with a trio of tallies to go up 3-1 after 20 minutes on markers by Kurm, Mason Meyer and Bryce Lipinski.

The North Stars rookie supplied the only offensive production in the middle session to pull the visitors to within one heading into the third.

Meyer’s second of the night put the Lakers up 4-2 4:48 into the last period while Kurm connected again 62 seconds later.

Delpaggio then made it interesting midway through the third as he completed his hat-trick, but that would turn out to be the final goal of the night.

Lyndon Lipinski chipped in with two assists to aid the Lakers’ cause in the triumph.

Fort Frances outshot Thunder Bay 48-38 on the night with Jordan Cartney picking up the win and Nathanial Dupuis the loss.
