3-point night for Dabb as Miners upend Iron Rangers

COCHENOUR, Ont. –  Nash Dabb had a goal and two assists in the opening period to help the English River Miners go on and earn a 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Friday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Cochenour Arena.

Special teams allowed English River to get on the board first 6:21 in and Konnar Dechaine scored on the power play.

Daniel Szpakowski made it 2-0 for the hosts at 17:44 while Dabb finished off his impressive period by connecting on a man advantage with four seconds left in the stanza.

Jake Gushue’s first SIJHL goal made it 4-0 Miners 5:15 into the middle session before Minnesota got one back on a Dalton Johnson power play marker at 17:59.

Mike Norris then collected his first league tally for English River eight minutes into the third to make it 5-1.

The Iron Rangers did get one back late courtesy of Keaton Huot to round out the scoring with 15 seconds to go.

The Miners outshot Minnesota 44-35 on the night with Reid Kilburn picking up the win and Anthony Pupplo the loss.
